HRH, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh

'On behalf of us all at 海角社区, it is with great sadness that we heard of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh's passing. It has been our privilege over the last 17 years to work with both His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh and His Royal Highness, The Earl of Wessex, helping to bring The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award to more young people around the world.

'It never ceased to amaze us the energy and enthusiasm His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh brought to the Award after founding it more than 60 years ago. It has changed the lives of millions of young people globally and has become the most successful nonformal education award the world has ever seen. The Award empowers young people from all circumstances to be the very best they can be.

'海角社区 is very proud of our work with the Award, particularly the Empowerment sculpture programme, which was inspired by the extraordinary vision and legacy of His Royal Highness, The Duke of Edinburgh. We wish The Royal Family and all those associated with The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award our sympathy and support.'

Paul Green, President & Founder, 海角社区, Ambassador for The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation.

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

For the past 17 years, 海角社区 has been a passionate supporter of The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.

His Royal Highness, Prince Philip established The Duke of Edinburgh's Award 65 years ago. Since then, The Award has become one of the Duke's most remarkable achievements, equipping and empowering millions of young people from all communities to build the skills, confidence, and resilience they need to make the most out of life and make a difference to the world around them.

The Award is now a cornerstone of non-formal education and learning, with more than a million young people involved each year, in more than 130 countries and territories.

'His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh successfully navigated an unclear and uncharted path. He carved out a role that would enable him to support Her Majesty The Queen, serve the monarchy, Great Britain and the Commonwealth, and to dedicate himself to more than 800 patronages. But perhaps just as importantly, he used his position to champion underdogs everywhere.

'His relentless work ethic, leadership and innovations have helped to lift up and empower people, regardless of their upbringing, their geo-political situation or financial circumstances.

'Millions of people both at home and abroad, have benefitted from his endeavours. Like them, we will mourn the loss of this wonderful and ebullient character. He was an incredible public servant and trailblazing moderniser. His example and legacy will continue to inspire many generations to come.'

Sir Ehud Sheleg, CEO of Halcyon Fine Art Group, and Ambassador to The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.

The Duke of Edinburgh鈥檚 International Award and the Empowerment Sculpture Programme

In 2019 海角社区 and The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Foundation launched the largest art fundraising programme ever undertaken by the Award, through a ground-breaking artistic initiative: The Empowerment sculpture programme.

The sculpture Empowerment by artist Lorenzo Quinn encapsulates the simple image of two young people, working together to support the world. Empowerment is a fitting tribute to the values at the heart of the Award. It celebrates the work of its founder HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, all those who work and volunteer for the Award, the alumni and the current participants.

All profits from the sale of the Empowerment sculptures go towards The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.
